Importance of Social Media when it comes to SEO

Years ago I started my first web site, at that time there was no Facebook, Google +1, or even Twitter that I can remember. I worked and worked on how to get my web site out there but either the e-books could be bought in 3 ‘small’ payments or you had to sit and click through websites just to earn enough credits for your site to be seen. It was a crazy, vicious circle; which looking back was a complete waste of my time. Move forward a few years and because I wanted my website to be found; I then paid $60 a month to a firm that promised to “get my site out there”…and after wasting hundreds of dollars, that too became not only a waste of my time but also my money.

Move forward four or five years and what I found  were Social Media Sites. Obviously they there before this, but in this past few years is when they really started taking off. Or maybe I just finally got a bit smarter on how everything works.

The first thing you need when you start a web site is interesting content and people who are willing to read it, and share it.  Facebook has made this easier and easier with adding their fan pages, the share button, and the like button. You can incorporate them on your websites, a post on your blog, and right from your Facebook page. Using this site helps you with search engine optimization and facebook .

Another up and coming tool for web site users is the ever popular Google +. The more your website is shared, +1′d by others the better your site will index on Google.  It is important to have a Google + page for your personal use, and then make a Google + page for your business. You can then add people to your circles, they will add you to theirs and this is when having the +1 button will come in handy on your site and other sites that you visit. When you or other’s +1 a post it will show you how many have +1′d that post. Also you don’t have to worry about 1 person  +1-ing the same post  ten times, because if you +1 it and then try to do it again, it then subtracts your +1. This will help Google’s algorithm when indexing a person’s web site.

  1. Ugh! Thanks for reliving those BAD memories!!! What a nightmare that was. I actually had a premature to Google search engine website I made at the age of 10! The only way I reached visitors was Word Of Mouth! ..and I was featured in several books, magazines, etc. Impossible to do now….!
